One of the highlights of the property is undoubtedly HarBAR on 6th, the hotel’s rooftop bar and restaurant. Looking out across Southampton Water, it offers some of the finest views in the city. As daylight fades and the marina lights begin to reflect across the water below, it becomes easy to understand why the venue remains popular with both guests and locals alike. Even if you’re not staying overnight, it’s worth visiting for the setting alone.
The hotel’s spa presents a more mixed experience.
The facilities themselves are attractive and well-maintained, featuring a swimming pool, sauna, steam room and treatment areas. However, the decision to allow children into what is a relatively compact spa environment creates an unusual dynamic. For families this may be a welcome inclusion, but those seeking the tranquil atmosphere traditionally associated with a luxury spa may occasionally find the experience less restful than anticipated.
It is not necessarily a flaw, but it does feel slightly at odds with the otherwise sophisticated and adult-oriented atmosphere found throughout much of the hotel.
That said, this remains a relatively minor criticism within what is otherwise a highly enjoyable stay.
The Harbour Hotel succeeds because it understands something many city hotels overlook: location alone is not enough. Guests remember how a hotel makes them feel.
