Removed from the crowds but connected effortlessly to everything the city has to offer, Gran Meliá Torre Melina is less about being seen and more about creating an atmosphere you’ll struggle to leave behind.
Following an extensive transformation, the hotel has become one of Barcelona’s newest luxury addresses, blending contemporary Spanish design with exceptional hospitality and the exclusivity of RedLevel. During my stay in a RedLevel Panoramic Room, I discovered that this wasn’t simply another five-star hotel. It was somewhere that further encouraged me to slow down, savour every detail and rediscover Barcelona from an entirely different perspective. Just my cup of tea!
First Impressions
Arriving at Torre Melina feels wonderfully unexpected.
Instead of battling busy streets and streams of tourists, you’re welcomed by beautifully landscaped gardens, mature trees and a sense of calm that immediately distinguishes the hotel from many of Barcelona’s better-known luxury properties.
The lobby sets the tone instantly.
Natural light pours through the vast glass atrium, drawing your eyes upwards towards one of the building’s most impressive architectural features. Glass lifts glide effortlessly through the centre of the space, creating a feeling of openness that photographs simply don’t capture. It’s elegant without becoming intimidating and luxurious without trying too hard.

Location
Located in Barcelona’s prestigious Pedralbes district, Torre Melina occupies one of the city’s quietest and greenest neighbourhoods. Often likened to Londons Kensington. Yet couldn’t be more different in the most perfect of ways.
For travellers wanting to combine sightseeing with relaxation, it’s an excellent balance. You’re removed from Las Ramblas and the Gothic Quarter’s constant energy, yet taxis, the Metro and public transport make reaching Barcelona’s major attractions quick and straightforward. I wouldn’t suggest Uber every time as they seem to get lost finding the entrance to the hotel. Try guiding an Uber driver who doesn’t speak English, whilst in a foreign city, whilst the wine from the previous 6 hours of drinking is working its magic.
For me, returning each evening felt like escaping the city without ever really leaving it.
After hours exploring Barcelona’s vibrant streets, stepping back into the peaceful gardens and elegant surroundings became part of the experience itself.
Checking In
One of the biggest advantages of booking RedLevel becomes apparent before you’ve even reached your room.
The dedicated reception provides a calm, personalised arrival that avoids the bustle of the main lobby. Every interaction felt relaxed, professional and genuinely welcoming.
Luxury isn’t always measured by marble floors or designer furniture.
Often it’s measured by how a hotel makes you feel.
In my case its met with a glass of bubbles on arrival! And the scent of a Gran Melia hotel.
Here, everything felt effortless.
The RedLevel Panoramic Room
This was undoubtedly the highlight of my stay.
Floor-to-ceiling windows transform the room into a viewing platform above Barcelona, stretching across the city skyline towards the Mediterranean beyond. Below is the Polo club where you can watch the horses training throughout the day, with Barcelona FC in the distance to the left. There really is something wonderful about these views.
By day, sunlight fills every corner.
By night, thousands of lights gradually illuminate the city below, creating one of the most memorable hotel views I’ve experienced.
The room itself perfectly balances modern luxury with understated elegance.
Soft neutral tones, premium materials and intelligent lighting create a calming atmosphere, while the spacious bathroom continues the same refined aesthetic with excellent finishes and thoughtful design. Plus one of my favourite luxury artisan brands fills the room, Carner Barcelona. From shampoo, conditioner and body wash through to moisturisers, lip balms, hand creams and even daily selections of Perfumes and fragrances. Gran Melia, doing their thing as always.
Nothing feels excessive.
Everything simply feels… right.
One evening, sitting beside the window with a glass of wine while the city slowly changed from gold to blue became one of those travel moments that quietly stays with you long after you’ve returned home.
The Gardens
Perhaps the hotel’s greatest surprise lies outside.
Barcelona isn’t a city renowned for expansive hotel gardens, making Torre Melina feel genuinely unique.
Beautifully landscaped pathways, mature planting and generous green spaces create an atmosphere that’s difficult to believe exists within one of Europe’s busiest cities.
Whether enjoying a morning coffee or taking a quiet evening stroll, the gardens become an extension of the hotel itself.
They aren’t simply decorative.
They’re part of the experience. Tropical, quiet and filled with some local wildlife.
Breakfast
Breakfast can define a luxury hotel.
Fortunately, Torre Melina excels.
The RedLevel breakfast was one of the finest I’ve experienced in a big brand hotel.
Beautiful displays of seasonal fruit sit alongside exceptional pastries, artisan breads, local cheeses, premium cured meats and freshly prepared hot dishes.
Everything feels fresh, beautifully presented and carefully sourced.
Service is attentive without hovering, allowing breakfast to become something to savour rather than simply another meal before sightseeing.
It’s exactly the kind of breakfast that persuades you to linger just a little longer. Plus they offer my favourite fresh orange and bubbles! We mustn’t forget those now.
Facilities
The hotel successfully combines city sophistication with resort-style relaxation.
Elegant lounges, stylish bars, outdoor spaces and wellness facilities ensure there is always somewhere inviting to spend time, whether you’ve returned from exploring Barcelona or chosen not to leave the hotel at all.
Throughout my stay, the atmosphere remained consistently calm.
Despite its size, Torre Melina never felt crowded.
Service
Exceptional service rarely announces itself it whispers.
Instead, it appears through countless small interactions.
Staff consistently struck the perfect balance between professionalism and warmth, always available without ever feeling intrusive.
Luxury hospitality should feel natural.
Here, it does.
Is RedLevel Worth It?
For travellers considering an upgrade, my answer would be yes.
The exclusive check-in, elevated breakfast experience, premium accommodation and personalised service create a noticeably different stay.
If you’re celebrating a special occasion, planning a romantic city break or simply wanting to experience Barcelona at its most refined, RedLevel represents excellent value within the luxury market.
Something worth noting here is that there is also a beach club style venue in the hotel grounds. This is called Beso Pedralbes. A wonderful venue with the most fantastic service, food and sun loungers around a highly instagram worthy pool! Plus a DJ most days and parties certain days of the week. You get access without charge with Red Level but make sure you discuss this on arrival as certain duty managers at the beach club (not located on the beach) don’t uphold this agreement. (Beso is not owned by Melia, simply uses the grounds the hotel owns)
Included with Red Level you also have access to the hotels spa, which I must say is fantastic for around an hour or total relaxation and self care.

Its peaceful gardens, remarkable architecture, exceptional breakfast and unforgettable panoramic views combine to create one of Barcelona’s most complete luxury hotel experiences. RedLevel elevates the stay even further, adding the kind of thoughtful touches that quietly transform an excellent hotel into an exceptional one.
Long after Barcelona’s landmarks begin to blur together, I suspect I’ll remember something far simpler: watching the sun sink beyond the skyline from my room, glass in hand, while the city slowly lit up beneath me.
