After thousands of hotel stays across more than a hundred countries, people often assume the most memorable suites are always the largest, most expensive or most extravagant.

They aren’t.

Of course, I’ve been fortunate enough to stay in some remarkable rooms over the years. Suites with private pools, spectacular city views and enough space to lose your travelling companion for an afternoon.

But when I think back on the rooms that genuinely stayed with me, it is rarely about square footage.

It’s about how they made me feel.

These are some of the suites I still find myself thinking about long after checkout.

RedLevel Panoramic Room, Gran Meliá Torre Melina, Barcelona

Some hotel rooms have a view.

Others have a stage.

The RedLevel Panoramic Room at Torre Melina belongs firmly in the second category.

Perched high above Barcelona, the city unfolds beneath you in every direction. By day, the skyline stretches towards the Mediterranean. By night, the lights of Catalonia twinkle endlessly below.

What I loved most wasn’t simply the view itself.

It was how the room encouraged you to slow down and enjoy it.

A glass of wine in hand, watching the city transition from afternoon to evening, became part of the experience.

The room wasn’t competing for attention.

It simply framed Barcelona perfectly.

The Regent’s Suite, Meliá White House, London

London is one of my favourite cities for hotel stays.

The Regent’s Suite at Meliá White House manages to capture something increasingly rare in modern hospitality.

Space.

Real space.

In a city where every square foot comes at a premium, the suite feels wonderfully generous. Elegant without being flashy, sophisticated without becoming formal.

After a day spent navigating London’s endless energy, returning to the suite felt like stepping into a private residence.

The best luxury is often comfort.

This suite understands that perfectly.

The Knickerbocker, New York

New York has a habit of making everything feel bigger.

The Queen Suite at The Knickerbocker was no exception.

There is an unmistakable energy to staying in the heart of Manhattan. Looking out across the city, knowing that some of the world’s most famous streets are directly below, creates a feeling that few destinations can replicate.

Yet despite the chaos outside, the suite itself felt calm.

Refined.

A retreat above the noise.

And after a day exploring New York, that balance was priceless.

The Ritz-Carlton Maldives

If there is such a thing as paradise, it probably looks something like an overwater villa in the Maldives.

My infinity pool suite at The Ritz-Carlton Maldives delivered everything you imagine when dreaming about the Indian Ocean.

Endless shades of blue.

Direct access to impossibly clear water.

Sunrises that seemed almost unreal.

The private infinity pool quickly became my favourite place to spend an afternoon, drifting between a swim, a good book and the occasional glass of wine as the horizon melted into the sea.

Some suites impress you.

This one simply allowed me to disappear from the world for a while.

The Beach Suites, Carbis Bay

And then there is Carbis Bay.

Objectively, these may not be the grandest suites I’ve stayed in.

But they might be the most meaningful.

Long before the beach suites existed, I was visiting Carbis Bay as a child. I’ve watched the hotel evolve over the years, growing alongside my own journey as a traveller.

Returning now and staying in one of the beach suites feels strangely personal.

The turquoise waters are still there.

The golden sand remains unchanged.

But each visit carries layers of memories stretching back decades.

Perhaps that’s why certain hotels become more than places to stay.

They become part of our story.

More Than A Room

The truth is that memorable suites are rarely defined by luxury alone.

I’ve stayed in extraordinary rooms around the world.

Some offered breathtaking views.

Others delivered exceptional service.

A few seemed almost impossibly beautiful.

Yet the suites I remember most all have one thing in common.

They gave me a feeling I didn’t want to leave behind.

Years later, I may forget the thread count, the room number or even the exact layout.

But I still remember the sunsets over Barcelona.

The calm of London.

The energy of New York.

The serenity of the Maldives.

And the childhood memories waiting for me in Cornwall.

That’s what makes a suite memorable.

Not the room itself.

The memories created within it.
