Ah, Paris! The City of Light has a way of pulling at your heartstrings, doesn’t it? There’s something inherently romantic and enchanting about the streets, the food, and the culture that makes a weekend getaway feel like an escape into a dream. If you’re ready to fall in love with Paris all over again, come along with me as we uncover the delights of a weekend filled with charm, elegance, and just a hint of adventure!

The Eiffel Tower: A View from Below

No trip to Paris is complete without a visit to the Eiffel Tower, right? But here’s a little secret: You don’t actually have to go up to enjoy the magic! On our first day, we opted for the blissful peaceful experience of lounging in the Champ de Mars. Picture this: a warm breeze, a golden sun casting friendly shadows, and the glorious Eiffel Tower in all its splendour right before our eyes.

We grabbed some freshly baked pastries from a nearby boulangerie (seriously, you haven’t lived until you try a buttery croissant in Paris) and set up a little picnic. Insider tip: Aim to arrive early in the morning or later in the evening for fewer crowds and that perfect Instagram-worthy glow. I promise you’ll thank me later!

A Touch of Luxury: Shangri-La Hotel

Next on our itinerary was a stop at the luxurious Shangri-La Hotel. Now, even if you’re not planning to stay here, I highly recommend paying a visit. The elegant decor feels like a step back in time, full of opulence that whispers luxury without being over the top. We settled in at the bar and indulged in some delightful cocktails that were as stunning visually as they were in taste.

Oh, and here’s a nifty trick: Always ask the bartender for their signature drink. You’ll often discover hidden gems that you wouldn’t have thought to order on the menu! And, bonus—take a moment to explore the hotel grounds. You never know what stunning views of the Eiffel Tower you might stumble upon.

Cozy in the 11th Arrondissement

After our lovely cocktails, we headed to our home base: a charming Airbnb nestled in the heart of  the 11th arrondissement. If you’re looking for that authentic Parisian experience, this is the neighborhood to choose. Picture narrow streets lined with trendy bistros, quaint coffee shops, and a vibrant local vibe that just beckons you to explore.

Travel tip: When booking an Airbnb, look for places with glowing reviews that mention location and hosts who go the extra mile. We struck gold with our host, who left us a bottle of wine and a map with local recommendations—talk about a warm welcome!

Cocktails at Le Gloster

As the sun began to set, we set out to find our next stop: the quirky cocktail bar Le Gloster in the 7th arrondissement. Let me tell you, walking in felt like stepping into a friend’s cozy living room—complete with eclectic decor and a laid-back vibe. We ended up making friends with the bartenders, who were more than happy to whip up something unique for us.

Their signature cocktails? Absolute works of art! And they didn’t just taste amazing, they came with delightful stories behind them. Pro tip: Connect with the staff; their passion for mixology can lead you to some incredible discoveries.

A Wine Lover’s Paradise

One of my favourite parts of visiting Paris is discovering the wine bars tucked away in charming corners. After our cocktail adventure, we strolled to a few hidden gems we’d read about. Each place offered a delightful selection of wines, often featuring local varieties that we couldn’t resist sampling.

Recommendation: When you find a spot you love, don’t be shy to ask for a tasting flight! This way, you’ll get to try several different wines, and who knows, you might walk away with a new favourite! Plus, it’s a great conversation starter with your fellow wine enthusiastsor even the bartenders!

Strolling Through Le Marais

The next morning, we hit the streets of Le Marais. This neighbourhood truly stole my heart! With its stunning architecture, art galleries, and charming boutiques, it felt like the best of Paris all in one spot. We thrived on wandering through the narrow, cobbled streets, peeking into shops that seemed to reflect the soul of Paris.

Travel advice: Make it a point to get lost here! Sometimes, the best finds come from exploring without an agenda. The cafés along the way are perfect for popping in and enjoying a café au lait while listening to the sweet sound of distant street musicians.

Oh, and don’t forget to try a falafel from L’As du Fallafel while you’re in the area after all it’s a total crowd-pleaser!

Smooth Sailing with Eurostar

Our adventure began with a seamless journey aboard the Eurostar from London to Paris. Seriously, this is the way to travel! The train was comfortable, offering panoramic views of the English countryside as we zoomed toward the city. In just over two hours, we went from bustling London to the charm of Paris in a perfect start to the weekend!

Final Thoughts: Whether you’re savouring a quiet moment beneath the Eiffel Tower, indulging in delectable wines, or getting lost in the charming streets of Le Marais, embracing the leisurely pace of Paris is the best way to experience its magic. So, gather your travel essentials, let your wanderlust guide you, and get ready for an unforgettable escapade in one of the most beautiful cities in the world!
