Nestled in the picturesque village of St Mawes, Cornwall, The Hotel Tresanton is a hidden gem that offers a seamless blend of elegance, comfort, and top-notch service. Part of the renowned Polizzi collection, the attention to detail here is nothing short of exceptional, and it starts the moment you arrive. Having stayed in hotels across the world, some of which are classed as the best, the service here matches and even excels past others.

Room with a view!

Arrival: A Warm Welcome

Upon arrival, you’re greeted with a sense of calm. You park right out front and ascend the steps to reception, where you hand over your car keys. Instantly, you feel taken care of. A welcome drink is offered and what a lovely touch to kick off your stay! The efficiency of the check-in process makes for a delightful beginning, and it’s brilliant that you’re escorted to your room, eliminating any chance of hotel-induced confusion (which wouldn’t be such a bad thing as the hotel is set in 5 beautiful white washed Italian style buildings) At this point my phone bleeped and my car had been moved to the secure car park and even placed on charge for me. What a beautiful small detail that meant my homeward journey was easier as I didn’t have to look for charging spots!

Elegance in Every Detail

As you step into your room, it’s clear that every detail has been meticulously considered. Your bags are already on the luggage holder, which is a reassuring note for cleanliness as no one wants to place their luggage on the floor or risk unclean luggage bases or boots touching the bedding. The room itself exudes an elegant charm, striking a perfect balance between comfort and style.

The fitted wardrobes are  well appointed, complete with a beach bag and towel, not to mention those little luxuries that elevate your experience. The spacious bathroom is a true marvel, featuring a walk-in shower with a large white marble seat, double sinks, and entire wall mirrors. The accent lighting is perfect for creating an ambiance, with brighter lights available when you need to get ready without missing a detail. If there were a five-star rating for comfort, the beautifully plush queen-sized beds clad in Egyptian cotton would surely earn it; I had the best sleep of my life! To top this all off the room is filled with countless Bramley   products to try.

A Garden Paradise

Evenings in Tresanton

As a Master of Horticulture, I simply must mention the stunning gardens that surround The Hotel Tresanton. Thoughtfully maintained, these gardens are a true delight for any nature lover. You’ll find a beautifully curated selection of subtropical planting, from the iconic Dicksonia Antarctica ferns that evoke a sense of lushness to the striking Aeoniums that add a unique flair. The towering Echium pininana, Chusan Palms, and impressive Gunnera create a vibrant tapestry of greenery. Additionally, the gardens boast an array of palms, Phormiums, Agapanthus, Hydrangeas, Magnolias, and Camellias that flourish in this coastal climate. Each plant has been meticulously selected and cared for, offering a sensory experience that enhances your stay, whether you’re strolling through or simply enjoying the view from your room. It would indeed be remiss of me not to highlight the beauty of this serene oasis, as it truly complements the elegant ambience of The Hotel Tresanton.

A Culinary Delight

But what truly captivated me were the culinary offerings. It’s hard to pinpoint whether my sublime rest was due to the delightful Exmoor caviar, the exquisite whole lemon sole I had for my main course, or the beautiful affogato di gelato that graced my dessert plate. What I do know is that my taste buds were taken on a joyous journey! Each dish was beautifully presented and perfectly paired with fantastic wines recommended by the knowledgeable sommelier.

Breakfast Bliss: A Feast to Start the Day

After such an invigorating sleep, I woke up ready to embrace the day, and breakfast at The Hotel Tresanton is nothing short of outstanding. Served on the Italian-style decking crafted from Frassino Termotrattato wood, it feels like a slice of paradise. The meticulously maintained breakfast buffet is kept in pristine condition, free from pesky flies and topped up every few minutes.

Imagine freshly squeezed juices that practically sing with vitality, warm croissants still wafting the aroma of buttery delight, and beautifully dressed fruits waiting to tickle your palate. The yoghurts,  too, are a must-try, creamy and rich, with just the right hint of sweetness.

Now, let’s talk about my breakfast choice the salmon and scrambled eggs, served on a heated plate. Oh my, the eggs were rich and creamy, to die for, and the salmon? Quite frankly, the best I’ve ever had; fresh doesn’t even begin to cover it!

My favourite simple breakfast

A Stroll Along St Mawes

After such a splendid breakfast, I took a leisurely stroll along the charming shores of St Mawes. With the sun inching higher in the sky and the weather warming up, the scene felt almost dreamlike. Here are a few delightful things to do during a late morning wander:

– Dip Your Toes: The clear, cool waters are inviting and perfect for dipping your toes or perhaps even braving a cheeky swim in the refreshing Atlantic Ocean.

  • Views of Falmouth: With Falmouth in the distance, it’s hard to believe you’re near anything at all. The tranquil setting feels reminiscent of the Italian Riviera, yet it holds its unique style and elegance.
  • Take a stroll along the coastal path and stumble across St Just in Roseland church, a beautiful church consecrated in 1216 set in possibly the most beautiful scenery I’ve ever set my eyes upon.

Return to Relaxation: Beach Club Bliss

As I wandered back to The Hotel Tresanton, I knew I was in for another treat. Lunch at the beach club is a must! Set gracefully above the waterline, the café and bar are charmingly designed terraces that invite you to unwind. In their words, it’s an oasis for daydreaming, star-gazing, and, of course, listening to the gentle whispers of the waves. Pull up a lounger and simply exist with an Italian aperitif or take a sea on the lower levels and enjoy the breeze in your hair, the sun on warming your face and just take a moment to whisper “ I’m happy.”

The Pinuccia: Indulging in La Dolce Vita

Now, let’s not forget about the hotel’s truly enchanting Italian classic racing yacht, the Pinuccia. You can embark on an unforgettable journey or simply ask for a tender ride, and the staff are more than happy to oblige. It offers a fantastic day of sightseeing  and relaxation on the water. La Dolce Vita, indeed!

However, even for those not wanting to venture on to the water, its a beauty to sightsee from the beach, beach club or any location around Tresanton. The entire hotel extends out from a tiered position offering different aspects and sea views from all areas, with the main focus being around guests experience which really does explain the success of this truly special place.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, The Hotel Tresanton isn’t just a place to stay it’s an experience to cherish. With its attention to detail, warmth of service, and stunning location, it’s a destination that invites you to return again and again. Whether you’re there for a romantic getaway, a family holiday, or a solo retreat, you’ll leave feeling rejuvenated and spoiled.

For anyone looking to experience Cornwall’s finest hospitality, make sure you put The Hotel Tresanton at the top of your list. I certainly can’t wait to return!
