When most people think of Menorca, they picture turquoise coves, golden sunsets and long lunches overlooking the Mediterranean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I do too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But when I think of Menorca, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I think of the moment I took my first breath underwater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

A moment that would lead me down a path I could never have imagined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What started as curiosity became a passion. What began as a holiday activity became a defining part of my life. And what started with a dive centre in Cala Galdana eventually gave me some of the most extraordinary experiences I have ever had.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taking The First Plunge<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before scuba diving, the underwater world felt mysterious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I had spent years travelling the world, exploring coastlines and admiring the sea from the surface, staying in my favourite hotel on the Island which you can read about here<\/a>, but I had never experienced what lay beneath it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That changed in Cala Galdana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I enrolled on my SSI Open Water Diver course with Blue Islands Diving<\/a>, a family-run dive centre nestled beside one of Menorca\u2019s most beautiful bays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like many beginners, I felt a mixture of excitement and nerves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Breathing underwater feels completely unnatural at first. Every instinct tells you it shouldn\u2019t be possible. Yet within minutes, something remarkable happens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The anxiety fades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The noise disappears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The world slows down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And suddenly you\u2019re floating weightlessly in an entirely different environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I was hooked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Start Of A New Obsession<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Many people complete a diving course and tick it off their bucket list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I wasn\u2019t one of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The more I dived, the more I wanted to learn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every trip to Menorca became an opportunity to develop new skills, explore new sites and gain a deeper understanding of the underwater world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What began as an occasional holiday activity soon became the reason I booked flights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the years, I returned again and again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Open Water became Advanced Open Water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Advanced led to additional speciality certifications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deep diving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Navigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Night diving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perfect buoyancy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wreck diving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every course opened another door.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each qualification revealed another layer of a world that few people ever get to experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eventually, after countless dives, training courses and underwater adventures, I achieved SSI Master Diver status.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The certification itself was rewarding, but what mattered more was the journey it represented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thousands of moments beneath the surface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hundreds of lessons learned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A lifetime of memories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Solo Trips, Shared Adventures<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many of these trips began alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I would board a flight to Menorca with little more than a suitcase and my dive gear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some people find solo travel intimidating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve always found it liberating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those journeys gave me the freedom to focus entirely on diving, learning and exploring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yet despite travelling alone, I was never truly by myself for long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The dive centre quickly became a second home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The familiar faces waiting on the boat each morning made every return feel less like a holiday and more like coming back to family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The People Who Made The Difference<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every diver remembers the instructors who helped shape their journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For me, that journey would not have been the same without Pietro and Enza owners of Blue Islands Diving and Roberto who is one of the most skilled Scuba Divers I have ever met and also my Dive Buddy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What began as a professional relationship gradually evolved into friendship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their passion for diving is infectious. Their knowledge of Menorca\u2019s waters is extraordinary. More importantly, they genuinely care about the people who walk through their doors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the years they have guided me through courses, encouraged my development and shared countless unforgettable dives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every diver knows the value of a great dive buddy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trust is everything underwater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Calm, dependable, knowledgeable and always enjoyable to dive alongside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some of my favourite underwater memories have been shared with him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, we dive not as instructor and student, but as friends exploring a world we all love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Cathedral Beneath The Sea<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among all the sites I have explored, one stands above almost every other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cueva de la Luz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Cave of Light.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Describing this dive never feels adequate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You descend through crystal-clear water before entering a cavern where shafts of sunlight pierce through openings in the rock above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The effect is mesmerising.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beams of blue light dance through the darkness, creating an atmosphere that feels almost spiritual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cave resembles an underwater cathedral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Silent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ancient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beautiful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No matter how many times I dive there, it never loses its magic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My Favourite Dive In Menorca<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If I had to choose a single dive site above all others, it would be the wreck of the Malakoff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Resting beneath the waters off Cala Galdana, the French cargo vessel has become one of my favourite places to visit underwater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is something fascinating about wreck diving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ships that once crossed oceans now rest quietly beneath the waves, gradually becoming part of the marine environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Schools of fish weave through the structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marine life claims every surface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

History and nature merge into something completely unique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each visit reveals something new.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every descent feels like returning to an old friend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Swiss Cheese And Menorca\u2019s Underwater Playground<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the reasons I continue returning to Menorca is the incredible variety of diving available around the island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Swiss Cheese remains one of the most entertaining dive sites, with its maze-like network of holes, tunnels and rock formations creating a playground for divers to explore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The island\u2019s dramatic geology has created an underwater landscape unlike anywhere else I\u2019ve dived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every site offers something different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Caves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Canyons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Drop-offs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reefs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wrecks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The diversity is extraordinary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether diving around Fornells in the north or exploring the dramatic coastline near Cala en Forcat, there is always another adventure waiting beneath the surface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Diving Has Taught Me<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

People often ask why I love diving so much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The answer isn\u2019t simply the marine life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It isn\u2019t the wrecks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It isn\u2019t the caves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s what happens to your mind underwater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The world disappears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emails don\u2019t matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deadlines don\u2019t matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stress doesn\u2019t matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your focus narrows to the present moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each breath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each observation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a world that constantly encourages us to rush, diving forces you to slow down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Perhaps that\u2019s why I fell in love with it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More Than A Hobby<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking back, it\u2019s incredible to think how much of my life changed because I decided to try a scuba diving course in Menorca.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What began as a single lesson became a passion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That passion led to qualifications, friendships, adventures and experiences I could never have imagined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve explored caves illuminated by sunlight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve visited shipwrecks hidden beneath the sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve drifted through underwater landscapes that most people will never see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most importantly, I\u2019ve met people who have become genuine friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For that, I will always be grateful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whenever I return to Menorca, I still feel the same excitement I felt before my very first dive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because beneath the island\u2019s beautiful surface lies a second world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A world that changed my life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
