Mauritius is a slice of paradise in the Indian Ocean that feels like a dream come true! With its stunning beaches, vibrant culture, and lush landscapes, my time on this beautiful island was nothing short of magical. Join me as I take you through the highlights of my adventure, from breathtaking nature to luxurious accommodations.
Arriving in Paradise
Touching down in Mauritius, the welcoming warmth washed over me like a gentle embrace. I couldn’t wait to explore this jewel of the Indian Ocean, known for its powdery beaches, stunning lagoons, and rich biodiversity. My first stop was the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden, a gem that’s a must-visit for any nature lover.
A Stroll Through the Botanical Garden
The botanical garden offered a stunning introduction to the island’s flora, showcasing a remarkable collection of tropical plants. Wandering along the winding paths, I marvelled at the giant water lilies, which seemed to float gracefully on the surface of the ponds, their delicate beauty captivating my attention. The garden was not only a serene escape but also a lovely homage to Mauritius’ botanical heritage.
I was particularly enchanted by the vast array of palm trees—including the spectacular talipot palms, which can bloom only once every 30 to 80 years creating a unique atmosphere that felt utterly tranquil. If you find yourself in Mauritius, do dedicate a few hours to immerse yourself in this lush paradise you’ll leave feeling rejuvenated and inspired as well, I know I certainly did.
Discovering Black River Gorges National Park
Next, I ventured into the wild wonders of Black River Gorges National Park. Spanning over 68 square kilometres, this park is a hiker’s dream. I set out on a few trails, surrounded by stunning greenery and exotic wildlife. The views were breathtaking, with the lush hills and dramatic gorges creating an incredible backdrop. I even spotted some endemic birds, such as the pink pigeon and the Mauritius kestrel—it felt like stepping into a nature documentary!
Bliss at the Beaches: Le Morne and Pereybere
No trip to Mauritius would be complete without spending time on its spectacular beaches. I started at Le Morne Public Beach, where the azure waters meet the soft sands, creating a postcard-perfect setting. As I lounged under the sun, the gentle sound of waves was a soothing soundtrack to my relaxation.
Next, I hopped over to Pereybere Beach, famous for its inviting shallow waters—perfect for a leisurely swim. The vibrant atmosphere here was contagious. I enjoyed a local drink, Phoenix Beer (a tasty lager that perfectly complemented the beach vibes), and feasted on delicious bites like dal puri—a local delicacy that is not to be missed.
Chamarel: Nature’s Masterpiece
After a blissful beach day, it was time to explore Chamarel Waterfall, a stunning cascade that plunges over 100 metres into a deep gorge. Standing at the viewpoint, I was struck by the sheer beauty. The roar of the water and the lush greenery surrounding it made for a truly picturesque moment. Nearby, I also visited the famous Seven Coloured Earths, a natural phenomenon showcasing vibrant sand dunes that shift in hue—a charming spectacle!
A Day of Adventure at Île aux Cerfs
One of the most enchanting experiences was my catamaran tour to Île aux Cerfs. This stunning island is a little slice of heaven! The sandy beaches are picture-perfect, and the crystal-clear lagoons are just begging to be explored. I spent the day snorkelling in the vibrant coral reefs, encountering colourful fish and breathtaking marine life.
The onboard lunch was a highlight—fresh grilled fish, salads, and a refreshing local drink ensured our group enjoyed a taste of Mauritian hospitality. Ah, the joy of dining with the ocean breeze in your hair it doesn’t get much better!
Relaxing at Lux Belle Mare
My first stop for accommodation was the stunning Lux Belle Mare. The hotel is an absolute dream, combining contemporary design with an authentic Mauritian vibe. As I stepped into the lobby, I was greeted with smiles and refreshing towels, welcoming me to paradise! The spacious rooms were tastefully decorated, infused with natural light and stunning views of the ocean.
Each morning began with a lavish breakfast buffet featuring a delightful range of local and international dishes—eating freshly baked croissants while overlooking the shimmering sea was pure bliss! I also indulged in exceptional dining experiences, with fresh seafood featuring heavily on the menu. The service was attentive without being intrusive—every staff member seemed genuinely invested in making my stay unforgettable.
A Final Retreat at Constance Belle Mare Plage
For my last four nights, I transitioned to Constance Belle Mare Plage. This resort was a fantastic finale to my trip! The design was elegantly tropical, boasting magnificent gardens and expansive pools that effortlessly blended into the landscape.
Here, I continued my culinary adventure, sampling mouthwatering local dishes paired with exquisite wines. One evening, I savoured a candlelit dinner on the beach, the aroma of grilled fish and spices wafting through the air, creating a memory I’ll cherish forever.
Snorkelling and Diving Adventures
Throughout my stay, I embraced the vibrant underwater world through snorkeling and diving excursions. Each adventure revealed a stunning array of marine life—from lively coral reefs to gentle sea turtles gliding through the water. The crew was professional and friendly, ensuring all safety measures were taken while still encouraging us to fully immerse ourselves in this enchanting experience. As a master diver I take my experiences extremely seriously and can happily say the team here offer fantastic service in a safe environment for all levels and skillsets, they aren’t only welcoming and helpful but also offer a safe and create an environment where everyone wants to learn something new.
Flic en Flac Beach: A Bracing Finale
One of the final highlights of my trip was visiting Flic en Flac Beach. With its long stretch of white sand and calm waters, it’s perfect for a leisurely final day. I soaked in the sun, took a dip to cool off, and enjoyed more local delicacies from beachside vendors. The ambience was vibrant, and as the sun began to set, painted the sky with hues of orange and pink, it felt like a fitting end to an unforgettable journey.
Final Thoughts: A Slice of Heaven
Mauritius left an indelible mark on my heart, with its stunning landscapes, warm hospitality, and rich culture. From the lush botanical gardens to the breathtaking beaches and delicious cuisine, every moment was a delight.
